Baylor Rice is a 2nd generation licensed pharmacist since 1994 after earning his degree at the Medical College of Virginia. He worked in community pharmacies until 1998 when he and his wife Marni opened South River Compounding Pharmacy. He made the transition from retail community pharmacy to compounding as a natural progression. He had a vision of treating each patient based on their individual needs and using a team approach by working together with the patient’s practitioner for the best possible health outcome. Baylor and Marni first opened a tiny 500 sq foot, 2nd floor pharmacy in Midlothian during March 1998. Building relationships with patients and practitioners allowed the move to a much larger 3200 sq foot location on Robious Station Circle. This gave them space to add new staff and product lines. As business grew, the need for a 2nd location on the other side of the river lead Baylor to build an 8500 sq foot pharmacy with a state of the art lab on the corner of Mayland Drive and Gaskins Road in May 2007. Continued rapid growth of patients and practitioners along with an expanding staff created the need to move the Robious location to a new 6500 sq foot, ultra-modern pharmacy and lab on Huguenot Road in June 2013. In the short 20 year history of South River Compounding Pharmacy, we’ve grown to a professional staff of 25 serving over 41,000 patients and 6200 practitioners throughout Virginia and West Virginia.
