Welcome to the home of our #iBuiltThis2018 competition.

This exciting competition is open to everyone who has a passion for building, construction, design, fit-out, interiors and more. We would like everybody to participate and enter. It is open to children, young adults and the men, women and apprentices operating right now in the UK Built Environment.

We are on a mission to find the talented winners of the #iBuiltThis2018 competition. There are three categories of entry ready for vote casting, which you will find below.

Public voting starts on 28 September when you can vote for your favourite in each category daily closing midnight Sunday 30 September 2018.

The #iBuiltThis2018 winners will be announced by Architect George Clarke at the #iBuiltThis2018 awards ceremony taking place at UK Construction Week exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham on Tuesday 9 October 2018.

The #iBuiltThis2018 Judging panel includes a wide and varied body of experts from across the UK including construction industry leaders, public figures, construction educators, and contractors and entrepreneurs.


  • Amanda Clack | Executive Director, Head of Strategic Consulting at CBRE

    Amanda Clack | Executive Director, Head of Strategic Consulting at CBRE

    Amanda is a Member of the UK Board and EMEA Occupier Board. She is the Immediate Past President for RICS. She has 30+ years board-level experience having been a Partner at EY LLP, where she was the Head of Infrastructure (Advisory) and, PwC LLP where she led consulting across FTSE250. She is listed in Who’s Who, was also named by ICAEW as a Mover and Shaker of 2015 in the Global Finance 50 and has won numerous Awards.

    Brendan Williams | Founder & CEO of Building Heroes

    Brendan Williams is the Founder and Chief Executive of Building Heroes, a charity established in 2014 to help Military Veterans and Service leavers re-train into jobs in the construction Industry. After 25 years working at leading Global Investment Banks specialising in Operations and Technology and ending up as a Chief Operating Officer it was time to give something else a go. Born into a long line of specialist master bricklayers the opportunity to help start Building Heroes was too difficult to pass up. Being Chief Executive draws on all my cross disciplinary experience and brings more rewards than banking ever could. You only have to be told once that you have changed someone’s life for the better to know all the hard work is worthwhile.

    Carwyn Jones | #iBuiltThis2017 Winner

    He runs his own business designing and building garden rooms, glamping pods and tiny houses as well as teaching on some of the short courses at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), near Machynlleth in Wales. The courses include; build a tiny house, build a natural house, traditional timber frame. Carwyn is also the winner of Channel 4’s Cabins in the Wild with Dick Strawbridge, with his design the Dragon's Eye. He has appeared on Channel 4’s Amazing Spaces with his caravan built using recycled/reused materials, and more recently the Amazing Spaces Special Edition of Tŷ Unnos house in a night where he built a house in 24hrs.
  • Fred Mills | Co-Founder and MD of The B1M

    Fred Mills | Co-Founder and MD of The B1M

    Fred’s YouTube award-winning videos have amassed tens of millions of views making him a global figure in video publishing and a role model to millions of young people interested or already working in our sector. He is passionate about sharing “the best of construction” to improve the industry and ensure that it appeals to the best young talent. Fred’s mission is to fundamentally alter the perception of construction on planet earth.


  • John Hughes | RICS President

    John Hughes | RICS President

    John is based in Toronto, Canada, and is a founding partner of Hemson Consulting Ltd. For clients mainly in the public sector, the firm provides a wide range of advice regarding urban and regional urban growth management issues including demographics, land use planning and development and municipal finance. John was Chair of RICS in the Americas from 2013-16, and chaired RICS Governing Council’s Strategy Group from 2015-16. In his role as President, John’s major themes are cities, including planning and management; infrastructure, including sustainable investment; and technology, particularly its relationship to cities. John is also proud to hold the position of President during RICS’ 150th anniversary year.

    Kathryn Lennon-Johnson | Founder Built Environment Skills in Schools

    Kathryn Lennon-Johnson is an entrepreneur, author, business speaker and consultant with over 18 years of experience in behaviour change marketing and communications, having honed her skills in healthcare and social housing. As the founder of Built Environment Skills in Schools, Kathryn aims to bring employers, educators and young people together to tackle the skills shortage in construction, and ultimately grow a sector that builds the best it possibly can, for individuals, communities, the environment and all our futures.


  • Mark Farmer  | Founding Director & CEO at CAST

    Mark Farmer | Founding Director & CEO at CAST

    Mark has nearly 30 years of experience in the construction and real estate sectors and has become a recognised commentator and thought leader on a variety of issues. He is also playing a leading role in modernising the construction industry through the adoption of higher productivity strategies, including greater levels of pre-manufacturing using more integrated and digitally enabled delivery models. Mark is a member of the RICS, Vice Chairman of the ULI UK Residential Council, a member of the BPF Build to Rent sub-committee and co-chairman of Constructing Excellence. Mark authored the October 2016 UK Government Review of the Construction Labour Market Model entitled ‘Modernise or Die’.

    Steve Coley | Managing Director of Lakeside Ceiling and Partitions Ltd.

    Steve Coley started his working life in 1988 as a suspended ceiling fixer working for his father’s company Lakeside Ceilings and Partitions (LCP), where he gained valuable experience learning the trade from an installation perspective. He has been in his current position as Managing Director / Contracts Manager for LCP for 18 years. Steve is the immediate past President of FIS.


  • Wyn Prichard | Director of Construction Skills & Business Strategy at NPTC Group

    Wyn Prichard | Director of Construction Skills & Business Strategy at NPTC Group

    Wyn is the Director of Construction Skills and Business Strategy at NPTC Group of Colleges.  His role is to look at partnerships with bodies in the UK and beyond, to deliver for the sector, the skills they need. During his time at the Group, a number of Alliances have been agreed and are meeting the emerging needs of the construction industry. The slogan of the Group, is more than just a College, and Wyn’s role is to meet that statement.    Wyn has held posts with the CITB Wales, for over 14 years as the Wales Director overseeing the performance and strategy of CITB in Wales.  He has also worked with Wales Government and Training/Enterprise Councils, and had an early career in Banking.
  • George Clarke | Architect

    George Clarke | Architect

    George Clarke is an architect, creative director of George Clarke + Partners, and a founder of TV production company Amazing Productions. George is the presenter of several very successful series for television, including Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, Restoration Man and The Great British Property Scandal.

    George was born and raised in Sunderland and from the age of 12 wanted to be an architect. He studied architecture at the University of Newcastle and later at The Bartlett, University College London.

    George will be announcing the winners of #iBuiltThis2018 live on stage at UK Construction Week at the NEC Birmingham on the 9 October 2018.
