LOUISVILLE, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced major pavement work on Dixie Hwy (31W) between Stonegate Manor Drive and Greenwood Road.

Construction will begin south of the Gene Snyder Freeway between Stonegate Manor Drive and Bethany Lane (north of the Snyder) in the evening of August 17. Construction will proceed north in four segments as the project is completed.

After the initial section is completed, the other sections of roadway to be affected will be Dixie Hwy between Bethany Lane to Valley Station Road, Valley Station Road to West Pages Lane and then from West Pages Lane to Greenwood Road.

Contract crews will remove the asphalt, install the intermediate layer and repave the roadway in each section before moving to the next one.

Crews will be making repairs to shoulder along US 31W South so it can be used as a temporary driving lane when traffic is shifted. This section of the project is scheduled for completion by the end of September.

During daytime hours, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on US 31W. Lane closures will occur on weeknights in the northbound direction from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Closure times for the southbound direction are from 9:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Weekend lane closures are permitted from 9:00 p.m. until 10:00 a.m. the following morning on Fridays and Saturdays.

During construction, drivers will not have access to a continuous center turn lane along US 31W. This turning lane as well as the shoulders on both sides of the road will be used to accommodate traffic shifts. Left turning lanes will be provided at the signalized intersections.

While the entire project will not be complete until summer 2016, drivers will have access to all five lanes of US 31W during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season and the winter months. Traffic will be returned to its normal configuration between November 15 and April 1.

Hall Contracting of Kentucky, Inc. was awarded this contract in the amount of $14.5 million. Construction is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2016.
