WELCOME TO THE HOME OF OUR #iBuiltThis2019 COMPETITION.

This exciting competition is open to everyone who has a passion for building, construction, design, fit-out, interiors and more. We would like everybody to participate and enter, especially schools and colleges. It is open to children, young adults, men, women, trades-people, apprentices and general public, you can enter anything as long as it’s connected with the Built Environment. We want you to be as creative as possible, whether it’s a model, a physical structure, building, drawing or even a digital design using software. You are free to use any material for your build.

THREE AGE CATEGORY CONTESTs AVAILABLE FOR ENTRY

There are three age group category contests available for entry with one fabulous prize to be won for each contest. You can only enter your particular age category contest:

  • Age group: 13 and under - prize: family package to LEGOLAND, Windsor

  • Age group: 14 -18 – prize: the Apple iPhone XR (64g)

  • Age group: 19 and over - prize: a getaway for two adults at one of Canopy & Stars exclusive properties

We are thrilled to announce that the following entries have been selected as finalists based upon achieving the highest number of public votes. The winners from each age contest will be announced at the #iBuiltThis2019 Awards ceremony on 8 October.     NAOMI HAMILTON I #iBuiltThis2018 - 14-18 AGE CATEGORY CONTEST WINNER

    I started my Bricklaying diploma level 1 at Brooklands College in September 2017. I finished my course work early and hence my tutor sent me a challenge to build a semi-circular arch. I entered the arch in the FIS #iBuiltThis2018 competition and went on to win the 14-18 age category contest. I am currently an apprentice with Lee Marley brickwork Ltd, I now work on-site and really enjoy putting my skills and knowledge into practice.

    Earlier in March 2019, I took part in the Inaugural Female only brickwork competition representing Booklands College and Lee Marley brickwork Ltd. I won the competition and receive two trophies, tools and a certificate. I was also featured on ITV London News and in Apprentice Builder Magazine.

    Steve Coley started his working life in 1988 as a suspended ceiling fixer working for his father’s company Lakeside Ceilings and Partitions (LCP), where he gained valuable experience learning the trade from an installation perspective. He has been in his current position as Managing Director / Contracts Manager for LCP for 19 years. Steve is the immediate past President of FIS and a FIS Skills Board member.

    Alison Cox, Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, is the Executive Director Engineering & Technical Services of Sir Robert McAlpine. She joined the company after graduating with a degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, following her first summer placement on site at Holborn Bars.

    With 25 years’ experience in the industry, having managed large teams on complex projects such as Bloomberg London and Battersea Phase 3a, Alison has established a reputation as an exceptional professional; people-focussed, a leader, and a driver of technical excellence – not to mention exuding all that is great about being part of the Sir Robert McAlpine family.

    Alison spoke at the 2019 Women in Construction Summit on the subject 150 years of progress: why Sir Robert McAlpine won’t stop, in which she demonstrated how the company is using experience and lessons from the past to create an inclusive future.

    George Clarke | Architect

    George Clarke is an architect, creative director of George Clarke + Partners, and a founder of TV production company Amazing Productions. George is the presenter of several very successful series for television, including Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, Restoration Man and The Great British Property Scandal.

    George was born and raised in Sunderland and from the age of 12 wanted to be an architect. He studied architecture at the University of Newcastle and later at The Bartlett, University College London.

    George will be announcing the winners of #iBuiltThis2019 live on stage at UK Construction Week at the NEC Birmingham on the 8 October 2019.
