WELCOME TO THE HOME OF OUR #iBuiltThis2019 COMPETITION.
This exciting competition is open to everyone who has a passion for building, construction, design, fit-out, interiors and more. We would like everybody to participate and enter, especially schools and colleges. It is open to children, young adults, men, women, trades-people, apprentices and general public, you can enter anything as long as it’s connected with the Built Environment. We want you to be as creative as possible, whether it’s a model, a physical structure, building, drawing or even a digital design using software. You are free to use any material for your build.
THREE AGE CATEGORY CONTESTs AVAILABLE FOR ENTRY
There are three age group category contests available for entry with one fabulous prize to be won for each contest. You can only enter your particular age category contest:
- Age group: 13 and under - prize: family package to LEGOLAND, Windsor
- Age group: 14 -18 – prize: the Apple iPhone XR (64g)
- Age group: 19 and over - prize: a getaway for two adults at one of Canopy & Stars exclusive properties

THE #iBuiltThis2019 VOTING PERIOD HAS NOW CLOSED.
We are thrilled to announce that the following entries have been selected as finalists based upon achieving the highest number of public votes. The winners from each age contest will be announced at the #iBuiltThis2019 Awards ceremony on 8 October. We wish all the finalist the best of luck and a massive thanks to everybody who entered as we had some fabulous entries.

Alison Watson MBE | Founder and Chief Executive of Class Of Your Own
Alison Watson MBE is Founder and Chief Executive of award-winning UK education consultancy ‘Class Of Your Own’ and creator of the innovative “Design Engineer Construct!” (“DEC”) learning programme for secondary schools.
Alison was awarded an MBE for services to education in the 2017 New Year Honours and nominated to the Board of Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Salford School of the Built Environment.
Since 2009 Class Of Your Own, has helped young people and their teachers to recognise and aspire to the wide range of TECHNICAL and PROFESSIONAL careers available to them in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industries.
Brendan Williams | Founder & CEO of Building Heroes
Brendan Williams is the Founder and Chief Executive of Building Heroes, a charity established in 2014 to help Military Veterans and Service leavers re-train into jobs in the construction Industry.
After 25 years working at leading Global Investment Banks specialising in Operations and Technology and ending up as a Chief Operating Officer it was time to give something else a go. Born into a long line of specialist master bricklayers the opportunity to help start Building Heroes was too difficult to pass up.
Being Chief Executive draws on all my cross disciplinary experience and brings more rewards than banking ever could. You only have to be told once that you have changed someone’s life for the better to know all the hard work is worthwhile.

Kathryn Lennon-Johnson | Founder Built Environment Skills in Schools
Kathryn Lennon-Johnson is an entrepreneur, author, business speaker and consultant with over 19 years of experience in behaviour change marketing and communications, having honed her skills in healthcare and social housing. As the founder of Built Environment Skills in Schools, Kathryn aims to bring employers, educators and young people together to tackle the skills shortage in construction, and ultimately grow a sector that builds the best it possibly can, for individuals, communities, the environment and all our futures.

Mark Farmer | Founding Director & CEO at CAST
Mark has nearly 31 years of experience in the construction and real estate sectors and has become a recognised commentator and thought leader on a variety of issues. He is also playing a leading role in modernising the construction industry through the adoption of higher productivity strategies, including greater levels of pre-manufacturing using more integrated and digitally enabled delivery models.
Mark is a member of the RICS, Vice Chairman of the ULI UK Residential Council, a member of the BPF Build to Rent sub-committee and co-chairman of Constructing Excellence. Mark authored the October 2016 UK Government Review of the Construction Labour Market Model entitled ‘Modernise or Die’..
NAOMI HAMILTON I #iBuiltThis2018 - 14-18 AGE CATEGORY CONTEST WINNER
I started my Bricklaying diploma level 1 at Brooklands College in September 2017. I finished my course work early and hence my tutor sent me a challenge to build a semi-circular arch. I entered the arch in the FIS #iBuiltThis2018 competition and went on to win the 14-18 age category contest. I am currently an apprentice with Lee Marley brickwork Ltd, I now work on-site and really enjoy putting my skills and knowledge into practice.
Earlier in March 2019, I took part in the Inaugural Female only brickwork competition representing Booklands College and Lee Marley brickwork Ltd. I won the competition and receive two trophies, tools and a certificate. I was also featured on ITV London News and in Apprentice Builder Magazine.

REBECCA LOVELACE | FOUNDER OF BUILDING PEOPLE
Rebecca is the Founder of Building People, a social enterprise that connects people to work, learning, and support opportunities across the Built Environment. Rebecca has almost twenty years' experience in creating, connecting, and enabling organisations, networks, and partnerships across the Build Environment. Her focus is strategic employment and skills and her passion is 'joining the dots' between existing industry initiatives to enable more (diverse and disadvantaged) people to access and succeed in Built Environment careers.
Rebecca also co-founded BuildForce, the industry initiative to facilitate connections between Service leavers and industry employers and Circle Three Consulting consultancy, where she provided employment and skills/social inclusion/local community engagement support to industry.
STEVE COLEY | MANAGING DIRECTOR OF LAKESIDE CEILING AND PARTITIONS LTD.
Steve Coley started his working life in 1988 as a suspended ceiling fixer working for his father’s company Lakeside Ceilings and Partitions (LCP), where he gained valuable experience learning the trade from an installation perspective. He has been in his current position as Managing Director / Contracts Manager for LCP for 19 years. Steve is the immediate past President of FIS and a FIS Skills Board member.

ALISON COX | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ENGINEERING & TECHNICAL SERVICES SIR ROBERT MCALPINE LTD
Alison Cox, Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, is the Executive Director Engineering & Technical Services of Sir Robert McAlpine. She joined the company after graduating with a degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, following her first summer placement on site at Holborn Bars.
With 25 years’ experience in the industry, having managed large teams on complex projects such as Bloomberg London and Battersea Phase 3a, Alison has established a reputation as an exceptional professional; people-focussed, a leader, and a driver of technical excellence – not to mention exuding all that is great about being part of the Sir Robert McAlpine family.
Alison spoke at the 2019 Women in Construction Summit on the subject 150 years of progress: why Sir Robert McAlpine won’t stop, in which she demonstrated how the company is using experience and lessons from the past to create an inclusive future.
George Clarke | Architect
George Clarke is an architect, creative director of George Clarke + Partners, and a founder of TV production company Amazing Productions. George is the presenter of several very successful series for television, including Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, Restoration Man and The Great British Property Scandal.
George was born and raised in Sunderland and from the age of 12 wanted to be an architect. He studied architecture at the University of Newcastle and later at The Bartlett, University College London.
George will be announcing the winners of #iBuiltThis2019 live on stage at UK Construction Week at the NEC Birmingham on the 8 October 2019.
