Some Baton Rouge Police officers have a past that comes at a cost. It has left taxpayers with millions of dollars in bills the city-parish is forced to settle. Many of the officers involved in these excessive force lawsuits still carry a badge; some have even been promoted within the ranks.

9News Investigator Cheryl Mercedes has uncovered one such officer who was found guilty of excessive force in federal court and now is in an even bigger role on the police force.

It's a story she has been on top of for three years and will show you what new information she has found Thursday on 9News at 10pm.
