ON JULY 2, 2020, WSFA IS MAKING A CHANGE
TO OUR TRANSMITTER SIGNAL.

Rich Text

This change will affect anyone who receives our signal with a TV antenna. If you receive WSFA over the air using an antenna, you will be required to re-scan your TV's channel receiver in order to find us.

You WILL NOT be required to re-scan UNTIL the date of the upgrade – July 2nd, 2020.

Anyone receiving WSFA on an antenna WILL lose the signal to WSFA, Bounce, Circle, Grit, and Dabl on July 2nd, 2020 until this simple re-scan is performed.

If you receive WSFA on cable or satellite, you will NOT be affected.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I rescan my TV?

For most TVs, performing a rescan includes these simple steps:

1. Use your remote to access the MENU system on your television.

2. While on the TV (or TUNER) input, select the ANTENNA setting (if applicable).

3. Find the option labeled "Scan for channels," "Channel search," or something similar, and select that with your remote.

4. Your TV will automatically search the airwaves for all available local channels.

Once this re-scan is complete, you should be able to access WSFA, Bounce, Circle, Grit, and Dabl as usual.

My TV doesn’t have that, what should I do?

You may want to perform a Google search for your specific TV brand, or refer to your TV's user manual for a step-by-step guide.

How soon will my channels reset?

It varies from TV to TV, but the rescan should take only a few minutes and your new channels should show up right away.

Why must I rescan my TV?

You must rescan your TV only if it is connected to an over-the-air antenna on July 2nd, 2020. WSFA is changing frequencies on that date, and you will need to rescan in order to receive our signal.

What happens if I don’t rescan on July 2nd, 2020?

You will not see WSFA, Bounce, Circle, Grit, or Dabl on your TVs that are connected to an antenna.

What if I scan before July 2nd, 2020?

No harm, but you also will not pick up our new frequency. That’s why we’re asking everyone to scan on July 2nd, 2020.

Why doesn’t this affect televisions connected to cable, satellite or streaming?

Because these services are provided through means other than with an over-the-air antenna.

What if I rescan and I cannot see WSFA?

Wait a bit. Consult your TV instruction manual and try again.

I can’t find my TV instruction manual, what do I do?

We suggest going online to your manufacturer’s website. They frequently offer downloads of instruction manuals.

Who else can help me?

You might call your TV manufacturer or contact the retailer from which you purchased your TV.

Will you still be Channel 12?

Yes. Technically, it is only the “radio frequency” that is changing – this is what your television looks for when using an antenna. Our radio frequency is changing from channel 12 to channel 8. Your television will continue to identify us as “WSFA" to you.

Is this happening to other stations?

Yes.  Before 2020 is over, hundreds of television stations across the country are changing frequencies, which will require viewers to go through the same process to view them.

Why are stations like WSFA changing their frequencies?

We are required by law (and the Federal Communications Commission) to change our frequency? Our country’s entire “frequency spectrum” is being realigned to provide more efficient use of the airwaves. Over the course of the next five years, more than 1,000 U.S. television stations will change their frequencies.

Why use an antenna to watch TV?

An over-the-air TV antenna is a way to enjoy WSFA for free. Over-the-air reception offers the best picture possible because it is delivered directly from WSFA to you. Most electronics retailers sell inexpensive antennas.
