We're excited to kick off our Third Annual Thankful for Our Communities essay contest on March 21, 2016. If you have not participated or heard of this contest before, feel free to check out winning essays from previous years

Terms & Conditions

Thankful for Our Communities - Contest Rules

  1. By entering your essay in the contest, Shelter Mutual Insurance Company (“we”) will have the perpetual right to display your essay, or parts of your essay, in print and online (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, our webpage, etc.) promotions. You will retain all other legal rights to the essay you submit. 
  2. Your essay must be original and not already published or entered into any prior contests. Attribute any quotes or ideas that are not your own. 
  3. Your essay must be at least 3,000 characters and no longer than 6,000 characters. It must be in text only, and submitted in English. 
  4. You may only submit one essay per contest period.
  5. We have full discretion to reject any entry. If we decide that your essay is not something we want to display, your essay will not be entered in the contest. 
  6. You must be at least 13 years of age or older to enter.
  7. Our and our affiliated companies’ employees and agents, and the immediate family members (children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, siblings) of employees and agents, are not eligible to enter.
  8. The top ten essays are decided by the most votes, as recorded by the contest application. 
  9. One winner will be decided by the most votes. Four other winners will be decided by a panel of five judges. The essay with the most votes will not be included in the judging.
  10. Charities chosen to receive the $5,000 donation must be a tax-exempt, non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or state law.
  11. We will contact the participants through the email addresses provided and may reach out to them for future advertising purposes.
  12. We will accept entries only through the contest application until 11:30 p.m. CST on April 21, 2016. 
  13. We will accept votes only through the contest application until 11:30 p.m. CST on April 28, 2016. 
  14. This contest is governed by the internal laws of the State of Missouri without regard to principles of conflict of laws. All cases and claims pertaining to this contest must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in the State of Missouri.
